Dr. Afsaruddin is associate professor of Arabic and Islamic Studies at the University of Notre Dame, where she specializes in the religious and political thought of Islam, Islamic history, and hadith and Qur'an studies. This podcast, narrated by Sue Knight, covers issues to address in the classroom about Islam. After an Introduction, these topics are addressed: “Dignity of the Human Person,” “Rights and Responsibilities,” “Misconceptions of Jihad” and “Stewardship: the Common Good.”

From the pillars of Islam to zakat to Muslim ethics, Dr. Afsaruddin describes how the Qur’an and hadith instruct Muslims to live. She explains religious tolerance, community, personal struggle, and justice and mercy from her moderate Muslim perspective.
