Environmental Stewardship

Our mission for moral and spiritual development requires that we be concerned about the way we treat the world around us.

In 2005 the United Nations began its international decade for sustainability. In 2005, the National Association of Indpendent Schools chose sustainability as its theme, and committed to keep sustainability at the forefront of consciousness in independent schools.

CSEE took the reponsibility of composing a booklet for institutions that wanted to join in the NAIS and UN efforts, but were not sure of how best to begin the process.

The Environmentally Conscientious School: Where Do We Begin? was composed by a national team of educators with expertise and experience in environmental education. The booklet was published in paper copies for a first printing, with the support of the Forum on Religion and Ecology.
