Moral Development & Character Education

Our goal is to help independent schools throughout North America create ‘models of the possible” for character development in schools everywhere. Through workshops, professional collaboration, publications, newsletters, and a variety of other resources, CSEE offers some of the best training available for character educators anywhere.

As part of our “Working with the Best” program, CSEE contracts with North America’s finest university level moral development researchers and character education trainers, to lead workshops for small groups of educators from CSEE member schools. Through this program, independent school educators get a chance to spend two days with an expert in the field for as little as $10.

Our Moral Development Team is a dozen independent school administrators and teachers trained to be resources for schools eager to improve their character education efforts. The Team has worked with the "Working with the Best" trainers, engaged in a number of independent activities to hone their skills, collaborated on a resource booklet for CSEE, and are now available as consultants and resources to CSEE schools.

In collaboration with the Weekley Family Foundation, CSEE offers awards to independent schools to implement, or fine tune, a high quality character education program. In the 2008-09 school year, a total of $100,000 will be distributed to six schools. CSEE’s hope with these awards is to create a “tsunami of character education” in independent schools, to develop models for schools everywhere.
