Ethics & Religious Studies
CSEE is a leading resource for the teaching of religions and ethics at the pre-university level. Our work to ensure high quality in these areas includes the following, and more.
Our Institute for Teaching the World’s Religions events bring leading university scholars and creative, experienced independent school teachers of religion together to learn more about specific religious traditions and to offer resources helpful to the middle- and secondary-school classroom.
Held annually by invitation/application only, CSEE's Experienced Teachers workshop brings together seasoned teachers of religions with nationally recognized experts in the field for a one-day graduate-type seminar on a specific topic, and a second day of pedagogical and methodological discussions. Our goal is to develop, nurture, and support a widespread community of independent school experts, and to offer their expertise and experience to others in the field.
In conjunction with our experienced teachers workshop, we offer schools opinions we have gathered about teaching the world’s religious traditions - about recommended approaches, about appropriate texts, and related issues. Along with a number of curricular resources, CSEE publishes print and digital newsletters for teachers from grades K-12 to further their work as nurturers of ethical leaders for tomorrow’s world, and to make their work as teachers of religion easier.
CSEE links with nationally-recognized scholars to improve our knowledge and skills in teaching moral philosophy, applied ethics, and social justice courses. CSEE offers experienced consultatations on a variety of topics related to the issues outlined above.
