Critical Exploration (Harkness pedagogy)
Twenty-first century education competencies call for a host of skills that like at the base of Nita Pettigrew's consultation for CSEE. Critical exploration embodies the kind of autonomy and empowerment of students that lie at the heart of ethical/moral growth, as well as at the heart of deep academic learning. Students learn to take responsibility for their own learning, to respect the learning of others, and to collaborate as peers. There are few educational practices that hod more promise for developing a school culture of respect, responsibility, and collaborative learning than this tried and true pedagogy now finding its way into North America's most highly respected schools.
