Schools of the Future: Ethical Excellence

Schools of the Future: Ethical Excellence is a collaborative effort by NAIS, four national organizations, and Wendy Mogel encouraging independent schools to ramp up their efforts for ethical formation.

This call comes from the National Association of Independent Schools, the Institute for Excellence & Ethics, the Institute for Global Ethics, the Center for the 4th and 5th Rs, CSEE, and psychologist and author Wendy Mogel (The Blessing of a Skinned Knee, The Blessing of a B-Minus).

Schools—especially collaboratively—can have a noticeable impact on the effectiveness of ethical education / character education via well-planned and implemented programs.

The organizations above promise a number of resources, some free, to reach the collective goals outlined in the documents listed above.

Resources/Getting Started

The free PDF Smart and Good High Schools is a valuable resource, what we have called a "treasure trove" of useful practices for schools—including schools with students younger than high school—that want both excellence and ethics.

CSEE's booklet Highly Effective Programs: Character Education in Independent Schools is on sale while copies last, at $1 per copy for all CSEE member schools ($3 for others), plus shipping.
