Advisory: Making the Most of Our Time

Cannon School, outside Charlotte, NC
Friday, November 5th, 4pm - 9pm &
Saturday, November 6th, 8:30am - 4pm

In many ways, the connections that advisors make with students is the key to student success. How can we make this relationship meaningful, active, and stimulating for the students? How can we use advisory time to reinforce the larger mission of the school?

Advisors and advisory coordinators from all grade levels are invited to attend this event, which will be applicable to schools looking to fine-tune their advisory program, or to start one from scratch. Ample time is given to set goals and lay the foundation for making these goals happen at your school.

Participants will come away with:

-Knowledge of advising practices and procedures at a variety of schools from across the country

-Strategies for working with individual advisees

-Ideas for school-wide advising events

-Strategies for achieving faculty support, and ways to help resistant advisors to feel more comfortable in the role

-Resources, including a complimentary copy of CSEE's Advising Handbook

-Strategies to fit advising time into your busy school calendar

-An action plan for immediate program improvements as well as long-range goals
