Honor Codes & Councils

Developing, Maintaining a System

Flint Hill School, Outside Washington D.C.
February 19-21, 2010

Join long-time CSEE presenter Dr. John Roberts, and independent school groups from around the country for this three day event. Topics of honor will be discussed, as well as how to implement your school's program and achieve "buy in" from the student body. Roberts will also address how to deal with infractions, from initial report to dispensation. Ample time will be given for guided group discussion– an excellent opportunity to discuss similar honor system issues with peers.

This event will run Friday evening, Saturday day, and Sunday morning, dismissing at noon. Dinner Friday, breakfast and lunch Saturday, and breakfast Sunday will be included in registration price.

Individual faculty members are welcome to attend. Groups of two teachers and three students are encouraged.

Tentative Schedule:

Friday, 4:00pm-9:30pm

Saturday, 8:30am-4:30pm

Sunday, 8:00am-11:00am

Flint Hill School is located in Oakton, Virginia, aproximately thirty minutes outside of Washington D.C. and one mile from Fairfax area hotels. Both the Best Western and Holiday Inn Fairfax are good deals and in close proximity to the Flint Hill Campus (aprox. 1 mile away). We recommend that participants fly into Dulles International Airport (twenty minutes from Flint Hill).

Being able to hear from other schools about their systems and problems was of most value to me. I also appreciated receiving a formal framework for evaluating our system.

We are in the planning stages. It was valuable to hear about what other schools are doing - what's working and what's not working.

John (Roberts) was a good, warm, friendly, dedicated person; a good communicator.
