Creating a Middle / High School Spiritual Climate

Webinar
Wednesday, February 17, 3:30 - 5:00pm EST

This webinar will be held live from 3:30 - 5:00pm on February 17th. Those participants unable to make this time will be provided with a link to the recorded webinar for later viewing. The link will be provided one day after the completion of the session, and for up to 3 months after the taping.

The early segment of this webinar will outline the seven aspects of spiritual life that CSEE's Pathmaps team focused on as both "doable" and important for students in schools: values and beliefs, finding meaning and purpose in life, the spiritual dimensions of our relationships (to one another and to the wider world), being intentional in our actions, the experience of awe and mystery, processing transformative events, and the progressive integration of the self.

The second segment will address the issue of identifying areas, and setting goals, to focus on in a school community, and strategies for addressing these areas. Specific suggestions may be made for schools that have spiritual goals they are willing to share with CSEE prior to the webinar date.

The third segment will look at tools available and other strategies for making progress in creating and nurturing the kinds of climates our schools long for.

About the Presenter

David Streight spent two decades as a teacher of religions and ethics in the independent school world. He was co-founder and co-director of Religious Studies in Secondary Schools, and the convener of CSEE's interfaith Pathmaps team, charged with developing activities for spiritual development in schools. He has wide experience visiting and working with schools with a number of different religious and denominational affiliations, as the host for CSEE's yearly institutes on teaching the world's religions, and as the past host for the teacher section of the Religion and Ethics Newsweekly website. David is the primary author (though helped my many others) of CSEE's spiritual audit form and of CSEE's recently developed Spiritual Climate Survey. These two instruments will both be discussed and made available to participants in this event.
