Teaching Love, Kindness, Compassion
Webinar
Tuesday, December 1, 2009, 3:30pm - 5:00 EST
This webinar will be held live from 3:30 - 5:00pm on December 1st. Those participants unable to make this time will be provided with a link to the recorded webinar for later viewing. The link will be provided the day after the completion of the session, and will be available to view for up to 3 months after the taping.
In this 90 minute webinar, David Streight will outline the key components of the work he did to help high school students learn, appreciate, and be willing to invest themselves in the ways and powers of love and kindness. Students approached the course with the understanding that "if love is so important as a theme for novels, plays, poetry, religious traditions, and—especially—our daily lives, we might be better at giving and getting it if we had a clearer idea what it was." In a solid academic course, students did their exploration through readings, reflection, projects, and a social experiment. Participants in this webinar will go through the readings Streight used, the projects he offered students, how class time was spent, and the philosophical basis for the course in general. They will be invited to make small or large modifications to their own courses—ethics, literature, health, psychology, or religion—such that students are both more aware of the power of love, kindness, and compassion, and perhaps more willing to act on this new and all-important awareness.
The price for this webinar is a "site" price. As many individuals from your school as can fit around a computer screen (or projection of a screen) are invited to participate.
