World Communion Sunday (Christianity)
Tell a Friend About This EventTell a Friend

This holiday, recognized by Christians around the world, was started in a congregation in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1933. The Rev. Dr. Hugh Thomson Kerr, pastor of the Shadyside Presbyterian Church, conceived World Communion Sunday as a way to bring different congregations together in Christian unity. The concept did not gain in popularity until World War II, when people began to see the value of uniting in faith and spirit to get through troubling times.
