Discipline for Moral Growth

Misbehavior is part of life in all schools. Our duties as educators include dealing with inappropriate behaviors as they occur.

Schools with missions to foster moral and ethical development can, however, approach student discipline in such a way that moral development is fostered, while safety and learning also remain intact. If these goals can be attained, let’s reach for them!

In a one-day consultancy/faculty workshop for elementary schools on Developmental Discipline, Marilyn Watson will address such questions as:

  • How do we identify the best way to address misbehavior for a specific child?
  • How should we deal with misbehavior that could have been, or was, harmful?
  • How does Developmental Discipline foster moral development?
  • What kinds of disciplinary situations do not need punishment?
  • If we do not punish some cases of misbehavior, what alternatives are available to ensure that our goals are met?
  • What is the difference between punishment and power assertion?
  • When is punishment advised?
  • Is there a difference between addressing classroom disruptions, academic misbehaviors, and other infractions?
